Conservatory roofs in Stevenage

Stevenage was Britain's first post-war New Town, and that shapes the kind of conservatories I see here. Neighbourhoods such as Bedwell, Shephall, Broadwater, Chells, Pin Green, St Nicholas and Symonds Green were built in phases from the 1950s onwards. Many of those homes had a uPVC conservatory added at the back in the 1990s and 2000s. Newer areas like Great Ashby are full of family homes with Victorian- and Edwardian-style conservatories that are now 15 to 20 years old.

Most of these rooms still have their original polycarbonate roof. After two decades the sheets discolour, the seals tire, and the room swings between freezing in winter and greenhouse-hot in summer. The homeowners I speak to in Stevenage want the space they paid for back: somewhere for the kids to play, a home office, or a dining room that works all year.

Stevenage is only a short drive from my Hitchin office, so I cover the whole town as well as the Old Town, Knebworth, Walkern, Aston, Datchworth and Graveley. Many Stevenage homes have brown concrete or red tiles on the main roof, so Chestnut brown and Brick red Tapco tiles are popular choices here. Grey suits the newer builds at Great Ashby.

How it works

First, send the form or call me and we'll arrange a time for me to visit you in Stevenage. I'll measure up, explain your options and send a fixed-price quote, usually within 24 hours. If you go ahead, a structural survey and full technical check come next, and then we agree a start date. On the day, the old polycarbonate or glass roof comes off, the timber structure goes up, then the insulation, plasterboard and tiles. In the vast majority of cases the whole job, including plastering and electrics, is finished within 2 weeks.

Nu-Look is a family business, and over 40% of its annual sales come from customers recommending it to a friend, relative or neighbour. We never inflate quotations to make a discount look bigger. Every customer gets a fair price, every time.

Frequently asked questions

Do you cover all of Stevenage?

Yes, every neighbourhood, plus nearby villages such as Knebworth, Walkern, Aston, Datchworth and Graveley.

My conservatory is on a 1960s Stevenage terrace with a small garden. Is it suitable?

Lean-to conservatories on terraced and semi-detached homes are some of the most common roofs we replace. I'll measure up at the survey and explain exactly what's possible.

How different will my conservatory really be?

Once the roof is fitted, the conservatory has the same insulation value as any other room in your home. The U-value drops to 0.14 W/m²K, compared with around 1.7 W/m²K for a typical old roof. A polycarbonate roof provides up to 8 times less insulation, and a glass roof up to 6 times less.

How long does it take?

The initial build usually takes 3 to 5 days, depending on the size of your conservatory. In the vast majority of cases the installation is fully complete within 2 weeks, including plastering and electrical work.

What guarantees do I get?

Every Nu-Look roof comes with a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee through QualityMark Protection, which also offers deposit protection. The Tapco tiles carry a 40-year manufacturer's guarantee against wind, rain, fire, cracking and delamination.

Is finance available?

Yes. Finance options are available, subject to status. Ask for details at your survey.
