Conservatory roofs in Letchworth & Baldock

Letchworth Garden City was the world's first garden city, founded in 1903. Its Arts and Crafts cottages, tree-lined roads and generous gardens make it one of the nicest places in North Herts to have a conservatory. Next door, Baldock is an old market town on the Great North Road. It has Georgian frontages in the centre and family estates such as Clothall Common, plus the newer homes on its edges.

In both towns I see many lean-to and hipped lean-to conservatories across the back of semi-detached houses, and Victorian-style rooms on detached homes. Most were built with polycarbonate roofs, and their owners are tired of the same problems. In winter the radiator can't keep up, in summer the glare and heat make it unusable, and rain drums on the roof.

Letchworth's older houses often have red clay or plain tiled roofs. That's why Brick red and Red rock Tapco tiles are popular here, while Grey and Stone black suit the many slate-roofed and modern homes. I also cover Ashwell, Hinxworth, Radwell, Weston, Stotfold, Arlesey and Fairfield, all just a few minutes from my Hitchin office.

How it works

First, send the form or call me and we'll arrange a time for me to visit you in Letchworth & Baldock. I'll measure up, explain your options and send a fixed-price quote, usually within 24 hours. If you go ahead, a structural survey and full technical check come next, and then we agree a start date. On the day, the old polycarbonate or glass roof comes off, the timber structure goes up, then the insulation, plasterboard and tiles. In the vast majority of cases the whole job, including plastering and electrics, is finished within 2 weeks.

Nu-Look is a family business, and over 40% of its annual sales come from customers recommending it to a friend, relative or neighbour. We never inflate quotations to make a discount look bigger. Every customer gets a fair price, every time.

Frequently asked questions

Do you cover Letchworth's Heritage Foundation area?

Yes. Some Letchworth homes have extra design guidance from the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation. If yours is one of them, we can talk it through at the survey so you know what's needed before you go ahead.

Do you cover the villages around Baldock?

Yes, including Ashwell, Hinxworth, Radwell, Weston, Bygrave and Clothall.

How different will my conservatory really be?

Once the roof is fitted, the conservatory has the same insulation value as any other room in your home. The U-value drops to 0.14 W/m²K, compared with around 1.7 W/m²K for a typical old roof. A polycarbonate roof provides up to 8 times less insulation, and a glass roof up to 6 times less.

How long does it take?

The initial build usually takes 3 to 5 days, depending on the size of your conservatory. In the vast majority of cases the installation is fully complete within 2 weeks, including plastering and electrical work.

What guarantees do I get?

Every Nu-Look roof comes with a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee through QualityMark Protection, which also offers deposit protection. The Tapco tiles carry a 40-year manufacturer's guarantee against wind, rain, fire, cracking and delamination.

Is finance available?

Yes. Finance options are available, subject to status. Ask for details at your survey.
