Conservatory roofs in Hitchin
Hitchin is my home patch. Nu-Look Local is run from here, so a survey here is never far away. I see every kind of conservatory around this town. There are lean-tos on the Victorian and Edwardian terraces near the town centre and Walsworth Road, and big Victorian-style P-shapes on the newer estates towards Purwell, Westmill and Oughtonhead. You'll also find gable-fronted rooms on the detached homes out at Ickleford, Pirton, Offley, Gosmore and St Ippolyts.
The story is almost always the same. The room was built with a polycarbonate or glass roof in the 1990s or 2000s. Now it's too cold to sit in from November to March, and in July it gets too hot to use, especially in south-facing gardens. Rain on polycarbonate is noisy too, and a lot of Hitchin families tell me they've ended up using the conservatory as a storage room.
A Nu-Look insulated tiled roof fixes this by turning the conservatory into a proper room. On a period house in the conservation areas around the town centre, the slate-effect Tapco tiles in Grey or Stone black sit comfortably next to older Welsh slate roofs. On the 1970s and 1980s estates, Chestnut brown, Brick red or Red rock often match the main house tiles better. I'll bring tile samples to the survey so you can hold them up against your own roof.

How it works
First, send the form or call me and we'll arrange a time for me to visit you in Hitchin. I'll measure up, explain your options and send a fixed-price quote, usually within 24 hours. If you go ahead, a structural survey and full technical check come next, and then we agree a start date. On the day, the old polycarbonate or glass roof comes off, the timber structure goes up, then the insulation, plasterboard and tiles. In the vast majority of cases the whole job, including plastering and electrics, is finished within 2 weeks.
Nu-Look is a family business, and over 40% of its annual sales come from customers recommending it to a friend, relative or neighbour. We never inflate quotations to make a discount look bigger. Every customer gets a fair price, every time.

Frequently asked questions
Do you cover the villages around Hitchin?
Yes. As well as Hitchin itself I regularly visit Ickleford, Pirton, Offley, Great Wymondley, Charlton, St Ippolyts, Gosmore, Preston and Stotfold. Just put your postcode in the enquiry form.
My house is in a Hitchin conservation area. Can I still have a tiled roof?
Many conservatories in and around conservation areas have been converted. At your survey I'll look at your property and talk you through what's involved before you commit to anything.
How different will my conservatory really be?
Once the roof is fitted, the conservatory has the same insulation value as any other room in your home. The U-value drops to 0.14 W/m²K, compared with around 1.7 W/m²K for a typical old roof. A polycarbonate roof provides up to 8 times less insulation, and a glass roof up to 6 times less.
How long does it take?
The build usually takes 3–5 working days on average, with around 7 for larger or more extensive works. In the vast majority of cases the installation is fully complete within 2 weeks, including plastering and electrical work.
What guarantees do I get?
Every Nu-Look roof comes with a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee through QualityMark Protection, which also offers deposit protection. The Tapco tiles carry a 40-year manufacturer's guarantee against wind, rain, fire, cracking and delamination.
Is finance available?
Yes. Finance options are available, subject to status. Ask for details at your survey.
