How a Nu-Look Roof Insulates Your Conservatory
Blinds, film and heaters treat the symptoms. The real fix for a cold, overheating conservatory is insulating the roof itself. Here's what goes into a Nu-Look roof.
The layers, from the outside in
- Tapco composite roofing tiles
- 25mm x 50mm treated tile battens
- A breather membrane
- A second set of battens
- 40mm Actis multifoil quilt
- 90mm Hybris honeycomb insulation
- 125mm x 150mm rafters at 400mm centres
- 27mm Thermaline insulated plasterboard with an internal vapour control layer
What that achieves
The finished roof reaches a U-value of 0.14 W/m²K. A typical polycarbonate roof provides up to eight times less insulation, and a glass roof up to six times less.
Why timber
The insulation system needs a specific depth, which a timber frame built on site can provide. Every piece is cut to fit your conservatory.
Why not just fit blinds?
Roof blinds reduce glare but don't insulate. They let solar heat straight in and do nothing to stop heat escaping in winter.
